OUR STORY
Perks is a student engagement & loyalty app developed in-house by the University of Alberta Students’ Union (UASU). At its heart, Perks uses gamification & rewards to encourage participation on campus.
Perks has been running at the University of Alberta campus since 2020, and during that time we have had more than 20,000 unique students participate in at least one activity on Perks. We average 3,000+ students regularly and consistently using the app throughout the school year.
Of all the UASU’s various services and activities, Perks reaches more students than just about anything else that we do. Perhaps more importantly, Perks has been our most effective tool in reaching students that were otherwise disinterested in and disengaged from the campus community.

Earn points via attending & checking in at events and activities such as concerts, special events at the pub, co-curricular activities, wellness programs, student governance & engagement activities, and more!
Surveys
Surveys
Surveys reward points, and are great for gauging the opinion of students on things like student advocacy, interest & awareness of UASU programs, services, & businesses, students' health & wellness, fun pop culture topics, and paid surveys from sponsors.
Quizzes
Quizzes
Students can test their knowledge with in-app trivia such as UASU & campus services, community initiatives, and sponsors & other trusted partners.
Tutorials
Tutorials
Students can earn points by completing in-app tutorials, games, and tasks. These include tutorials on using the Perks app, and referral bonuses for inviting their friends to Perks!
Vouchers
Vouchers
Points can be redeemed through vouchers that can be acquired through UASU businesses & services, and sponsor tents at our Week of Welcome.
